Noto, Italy 2020
“Caminanti”, derives from the Sicilian term “camminanti”, which it means “the walkers”.
The caminanti are an "invisible" group of Sicilian wanderers, continuers of an ancient tradition centered on the word and on the sale of balloons. The "wandering Sicilians" are the last heirs of a culture based on movement, but they have made local traditions their own. They are Sicilian in every daily expression, from the cult of the countryside to the "good" cloth dress worn for Sunday mass, from the way of cooking and boning the animals to the symbolic gestures of the island, typical of those who have known the alternation of dominations various, finding in the gesture the only means of understanding. A colorful mimicry, that of the walkers, which derives from their wandering essence, because they are constantly in contact with foreign people and looking for a good way to communicate.
"They are not just nomads par excellence, Caminanti people tell us through the object of the balloon to elevate ourselves and think about the invisible realities that the community of human beings creates.
Arianna with her photography reaches a level of expression capable of depth and not only on the surface."
